Former world champion Mark Magsayo returns to the ring Saturday night (Sunday morning in Manila) when he battles American Andres Cortes at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Presented by Zuffa Boxing, the Magsayo-Cortes clash will take place underneath the headlining World Boxing Council welterweight title fight starring champion Ryan Garcia of the United States against Conor Benn of Great Britain.

Riding on the crest of a five-fight winning streak, Magsayo, 31, resurfaces dangling a 29-2-0 win-loss-draw card with 19 knockouts.

Last April, Magsayo stopped Feargal McCrory also in Las Vegas.

Cortes, 29, parades a 25-0-0 mark with 13 knockouts.

During the official weighin on the eve of the match, neither fighter encountered problems making the lightweight limit of 135 pounds.

But the two fighters exchanged words during the customary staredown, prompting security personnel to separate them.

Magsayo, originally from Tagbilaran, Bohol, tipped in at 134.5 pounds while Cortes, who hails from Sin City, stepped in at 135.

Magsayo is trained by Los Angeles-based Marvin Somodio, who serves as Freddie Roach’s right-hand man.
