Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna turned back time, blew away the competition and ran away with the Women’s Chess Invitational title Sunday at the Alicia Community Center in Isabela.

Frayna, 30, punctuated her magnificent effort with a 31-move draw with Woman FIDE Master Franchesca Largo in an English Opening and finished with an undefeated 11.5 points in 13 rounds on 10 wins and three standoffs.

It was reminiscent of Frayna’s 2016 ascendancy as national women’s champion where she also finished 2.5 points ahead of the field.

Ending up at distant second with nine points was WFM Shania Mae Mendoza, who dismantled Francois Marie Magpily in 37 moves of a Four Knights Game Woman International Master Ruelle Canino finished third with eight points after halving the point with Kate Nicole Ordizo in 25 moves of another English encounter.

It was the second national title of the year for Frayna after reigning supreme in the National Championship and Olympiad qualifier in Malolos, Bulacan last February and fifth overall.
