The Philippine National Police (PNP) expressed grief Wednesday over the death of a police officer who was killed while pursuing a robbery suspect here over the weekend.
Staff Sgt. Von Rico Bibaño Macuha, assigned to the Sta. Teresita Municipal Police Station, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head on 30 August during a follow-up operation targeting robbery suspect Carlo Arcilla Sape in Barangay Sampaga.
“We deeply mourn the loss of Police Staff Sergeant Von Rico Bibaño Macuha, who made the ultimate sacrifice while performing his duty,” PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said. “His courage and dedication to protecting the public will always be remembered by the Philippine National Police.”
According to an initial police investigation, officers were pursuing Sape after he fled his temporary residence during a pursuit operation. The suspect allegedly opened fire from an elevated position, hitting Macuha.
“PSSg Macuha’s sacrifice reflects the courage of our police officers who continue to put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe,” Nartatez said.
