The death toll from the combined effects of the southwest monsoon and recent tropical cyclones has risen to 31, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported Wednesday.

Benguet recorded the highest number of fatalities at 15, including 10 in Baguio City, two in La Trinidad and three in Atok, all due to landslides.

Rizal and Batangas recorded four deaths each.

In Rizal, two people were killed in a rockslide in Rodriguez, while one person died after being struck by a fallen tree in Antipolo and another drowned in Binangonan.

In Batangas, fatalities included drowning incidents in Batangas City and Mabini, an electrocution in Lipa and a landslide in Santa Teresita.

Two deaths were recorded in Occidental Mindoro, while La Union, Quezon City, Oriental Mindoro, Negros Occidental and Caloocan recorded one each.

NDRRMC and OCD data also showed 19 people were injured and three remained missing due to the weather disturbances.

About 2.2 million families, or 7.7 million people, were affected across the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Metro Manila, Mimaropa and Zamboanga Peninsula.

Of those affected, 8,446 families, or 28,910 individuals, remained in 346 evacuation centers.

Damage to infrastructure has reached an estimated P5.5 billion, while agricultural losses were pegged at P1.9 billion.

Around 2,700 houses were damaged, including about 2,400 that sustained partial damage and 323 that were totally destroyed.

The government has so far provided P1.42 billion worth of assistance to affected communities.
