VinFast has equipped its new electric motorcycle range with IP67-rated motors and motor control units to help protect the vehicles from rain, floodwater and dust.
The Evo, Feliz II and Viper entered the Philippine market on 31 July. VinFast said each model underwent internal tests that placed the powertrain in water 0.5 meter deep for 30 minutes. The motorcycles were also driven through water at the same depth for another 30 minutes.
An IP67 rating means the protected component is sealed against dust and can endure temporary water immersion under test conditions. This can reduce the chance of damage when a rider encounters heavy rain, road splashes or shallow flooding.
Water protection is particularly relevant during the monsoon season, when riders can face flooded sections with little warning.
However, the rating applies to specific powertrain components and should not be treated as an invitation to cross deep or fast-moving water.
VinFast also designed the batteries to meet European ECE-R136 safety requirements. The standard covers the safety of rechargeable energy storage systems used in electric motorcycles and other vehicles in the same category.
The batteries have protection against excessive voltage and temperature. According to VinFast, they passed the company’s durability tests at temperatures of up to 80 degrees Celsius.
The motorcycles also underwent a 500-hour salt spray test. This procedure examines how well parts resist corrosion after prolonged exposure to conditions that imitate salty or humid environments.
All three models can carry two removable 1.5-kWh lithium iron phosphate batteries. The motorcycles may also run with one battery, which gives owners the option to add another unit based on their travel needs.
When fitted with two batteries, the Evo produces up to 5,200 watts and has a claimed top speed of 80 kilometers per hour. VinFast lists its maximum travel range at 150 kilometers.
The Feliz II can reach 90 kph and travel up to 145 kilometers under the company’s stated test conditions. The Viper offers similar performance and adds a TFT instrument screen, smart key, anti-theft system and vehicle tracking.
VinFast provides warranty coverage of up to six years or 72,000 kilometers for the motorcycles. Customers who buy the batteries receive the same coverage. Batteries obtained through a subscription remain covered throughout the subscription period.
The Vietnamese manufacturer opened 21 electric motorcycle dealerships during the local launch. It plans to add more outlets as it builds its sales and service network.
A battery-swapping network is also part of the company’s Philippine plans. Removable batteries can be charged separately, while the planned stations are intended to give riders another way to replace depleted units.
VinFast estimates that its electric motorcycles could cost 17 to 28 percent less to own over five years than comparable gasoline-powered models.
The actual difference will depend on the motorcycle, battery arrangement, electricity charges and the rider’s use.
