Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro said a Cebu teacher could face administrative and criminal charges after making a social media comment suggesting Castro be shot.
Castro said the threat posted by Zenith Enriquez, a teacher in Danao City, Cebu, carries added severity because it was made online.
She cited that Enriquez could face administrative proceedings that may result in the revocation of her teaching license and termination of employment.
The incident stems from a Facebook post by content creator Lovely Granada. Commenting on the post, a user jokingly suggested that Enriquez shoot Castro.
Enriquez replied with a joke about shooting the Palace press officer in the mouth, a comment Granada subsequently highlighted and criticized, questioning whether such behavior was appropriate for an educator.
She later posted an online public apology alongside an AI-generated image depicting herself in a police uniform.
Castro stressed that teachers and public figures must remain responsible on social media because students look up to them.
However, Castro did not confirm whether she intends to file formal charges.
The exchange follows criticism Castro received from educators the previous week after she alleged that some teachers instruct students to be disrespectful, citing incidents in Davao and a viral video where a teacher encouraged students to call President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. "bangag" or addict.
