BTS’ V breaks silence on battle with hearing loss

BTS star Kim Taehyung, also known as V, has opened up about a hearing condition he has been quietly dealing with for about two and a half years.
The global pop star revealed during a recent Weverse livestream with bandmate Jungkook that he has significant hearing loss in his right ear, which he said retains only around 30% of its hearing capacity. He is currently taking medication and undergoing regular medical check-ups to manage the condition.
The revelation came as V and Jungkook ate together in their hotel room after wrapping up back-to-back concerts at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland, as part of BTS’ North American leg of its Arirang World Tour.
As the conversation turned to the physical demands of touring, V shared that the condition was something he had never previously discussed with ARMY.
"I’ve never told ARMY about this," V said. "It’s been about two and a half years, but my ears started having problems. If one ear can hear at 100 percent, the other can only hear about 30 percent. I’ve been taking medication consistently."
V also explained that the problem became noticeably worse during his mandatory military service. At the time, he initially believed he simply needed to endure the discomfort, which led him to delay seeking proper medical attention.
Jungkook expressed concern during the livestream, reminding V not to overlook health concerns or rely solely on willpower when dealing with physical problems.
Despite the challenges that hearing loss can pose for a musician, V reassured fans that he is actively managing his condition. He said he is continuing to take his prescribed medication and attend regular hospital check-ups while doing his best to maintain his health and continue performing onstage.
