The Police Regional Office 1 (PRO-1) accounted for 240 firearms and arrested 31 individuals during intensified anti-illegal firearms operations across the Ilocos Region in July 2026, as authorities continued their campaign against loose and unlicensed firearms.

According to PRO-1, the monthlong operations resulted in the confiscation of 33 firearms, the recovery of three firearms, and the voluntary surrender of 157 firearms. An additional 47 firearms were deposited for safekeeping, bringing the total number of firearms accounted for during the period to 240.

Police said the operations were aimed at reducing the circulation of loose firearms, which are often linked to violent crimes and threats to public safety.

One of the most significant operations was conducted on July 22 in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, where police implemented a search warrant that led to the seizure of six unlicensed firearms, including high-powered and low-powered weapons, along with live ammunition, firearm accessories, and tactical equipment.

PRO-1 Regional Director PBGen. Jovencio S. Badua Jr. commended the operating units for their continued efforts and reiterated the regional police force's commitment to intensifying its campaign against illegal firearms.

"Illegal firearms continue to pose a serious threat to public safety and remain a key driver of violent crimes. PRO-1 remains steadfast in intensifying its campaign against their unlawful possession through sustained intelligence gathering, coordinated law enforcement operations, and active community participation," Badua said.

He added that through the Enhanced A.L.E.R.T.O. Framework, PRO-1 will continue removing illegal firearms from communities to help maintain peace and order across the Ilocos Region.
