Eala books DC Open semifinal, assures at least $90K in prize money

How much did Alex Eala just earn? More than ₱5 million — and she's not done yet.

Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala's remarkable run at the 2026 Mubadala DC Open has already earned her a spot in the semifinals — and guaranteed her at least $90,900 (about ₱5.2 million) in prize money, with an even bigger payday still within reach.

According to the official WTA Tour prize money breakdown for the WTA 500 tournament, semifinalists receive $90,900 and 195 ranking points.

Should Eala go on to win the title, she would pocket $252,000 and 500 ranking points, while the runner-up receives $155,000 and 325 points.

Eala secured her place in the final four after defeating World No. 10 Elina Svitolina of Ukraine, 6-3, 6-4, in a composed quarterfinal performance that added another Top 10 victory to her growing résumé.

"I came with a great mindset today. I think I was playing really well. Elina hit some good shots. She was really aggressive, especially in the second set, so I was happy that I was able to keep my rhythm," Eala said after the match.

After sealing the win, Eala shared an emotional embrace with coach Joan Bosch before acknowledging the Filipino fans who rallied behind her throughout the match.

Bosch, the lone coach who accompanied Eala at the Mubadala Open, has been part of her team since her days at the Rafa Nadal Academy.

While Bosch's compensation has not been publicly disclosed, coaching fees for elite tennis players, according to tennis coach Brad Gilbert, are often structured around a share of prize money, year-end ranking bonuses, and additional incentives for Grand Slam victories and may vary per mentor or player.

Meanwhile, the 20-year-old now advances to the semifinals, where she will face former World No. 1 Naomi Osaka for the first time in a highly anticipated showdown.
