Lee Dong Wook teased a more action-packed and emotionally driven story in the second season of Disney+’s A Shop for Killers, saying viewers will finally uncover what happened to his character, Jeong Jin-man, after the shocking ending of the first season.
During the series’ virtual press conference, Dong Woom expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to reprise his role, crediting the success of the first installment for making the sequel possible.
“It’s such a great honor to continue playing the role of Jeong Jin-man. Based on the popularity of season one, we were able to move forward with season two, so I am very grateful. Thank you, all viewers,” he said.
The actor shared that season two raises the stakes as Jin-man shifts from simply surviving to fighting back.
“Like the director said, defense is not enough. He is resolved to really put an end to everything. So he counterattacks,” he explained.
Dong Wook also revealed that the upcoming season features even more action than its predecessor.
“I think we have more action sequences compared to season one, but I did as we did in season one. I put in my best effort,” he said.
Dong Wook also addressed the cliffhanger ending that left fans wondering whether Jin-man had survived.
“In season one, at the very end, Jin-man reappears, and all fans were surprised, thinking, ‘Oh, he’s not dead.’ Then the season was over,” he said.
“So when season two begins, while Ji-an was going through all that struggle safeguarding the home, what was Jin-man up to? That’s the question the season starts with, and I think with the very first episode, that question will be answered. So a lot of your expectations will be met.”
Beyond the action, Dong Wook said viewers can also expect a more emotional relationship between Jin-man and his niece, Ji-an.
“In season one, I had more chance to act with the younger actors who played the younger life of Jian, but in season two, I have more interaction with the adult Jian emotionally,” he shared.
Ji-an has now entered this world of assassins, and now that has happened, how will Jin-man make sure that his niece survives, and how will he live his own life? How will Ji-an carry her own life? There are a lot of emotional conflicts between the two. So please look forward to that.
Dong Wook even drew a lighthearted comparison to his real life, saying, “I have a niece or a nephew who is in the second year of elementary school, so they’re too young to watch this series, and I am not really that good of an uncle to them, so I feel bad now.”
When asked about the possibility of a third season, Dong Wook made it clear that he is more than willing to return.
“If I get the offer, I would be happy to join. Lee Dong Wook is always ready,” he said.
