Google said active users of its Gemini app in Southeast Asia have more than doubled over the past year, with the Philippines emerging as the region’s leader in female adoption and workplace use.
The findings are part of Google’s first Gemini Report: Southeast Asia 2026, which examined user trends across Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
According to Google, the Philippines is the only Southeast Asian country where female users generate more Gemini prompts than male users.
Filipinos also lead the region in using Gemini for customer support and marketing tasks, submitting prompts in these categories at three times the regional average, reflecting the country’s large business process outsourcing industry.
Creative work is another major use case, with 24 percent of prompts from the Philippines related to content creation and 17 percent focused on writing assistance. Filipinos also use Gemini extensively for career guidance, job-seeking, and workplace decisions.
Google said Gemini now has more than 900 million monthly active users globally, with Southeast Asia becoming its fastest-growing region due to its young, mobile-first population and the model’s strong support for local languages.
The report also cited an evaluation by AI Singapore, which ranked Gemini as the best-performing large language model for Southeast Asian languages under its SEA-HELM benchmark.
Across the region, nearly 70 percent of Gemini prompts are submitted in native languages, while almost three-quarters of requests come from mobile devices. More than four in 10 prompts use voice, images, or videos instead of text.
