  • The Provincial Government of Pampanga continues to develop the 6.59-hectare farmland of the Galing ng Magsasaka sa Agrikultura (GMA) Kabukiran Parcel in the Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) compound as part of is Food Security Project.

According to Provincial Agriculturist Jimmy Manliclic, the said project is part of the thrust of Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda and Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda’s administration to ensure food security in the province of Pampanga.

He added that two hectares of the 6.59-hectare farmland are actively planted and utilized, with farm produce such as eggplants, peanuts, patola, bottle gourd, okra, string beans, chili, squash, tomatoes, cassava, banana, papaya and sampaloc planted at the said area.

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) have already cleaned and prepared the land, as well as regular maintenance and watering of plants to ensure proper growth. The OPA plans to put electricity and water supply to broaden the farming activity, and boost the production.

OPA Planning Officer II Engr. Kenneth Cabigting reported that the initiative to further develop the area continues as part of the Capitol’s thrust of ensuring sufficient, safe, and continuous supply of food for the Kapampangans.

Pampanga is actively strengthening its food security through major local and national projects, including key initiatives such as the 6.59-hectare Food Security Project at the Clark Freeport Zone and the new Pampanga Food Security Complex in Lubao. These programs aim to boost local crop yields, reduce waste, and connect farmers directly with consumers.

Despite being a major agricultural hub, achieving consistent household food security remains a priority. According to the National Nutrition Council, while supplies are generally stable, a portion of vulnerable households still face challenges with consistent access and proper nutrition.

To help, the local and national governments frequently distribute staple goods, like the 20-kilogram rice allotments given to residents in towns like Sasmuan.
