After more than two decades without new music, Filipino alternative rock band Barbie's Cradle is making its long-awaited comeback with "Emergency," its first single since 2003.
Released under Sony Music Entertainment, the track reunites Barbie Almalbis, Kakoy Legaspi, Rommel dela Cruz, and Wendell Garcia with a witty indie pop anthem that explores existential anxiety through sarcasm and humor. Written by Legaspi and produced by the band, "Emergency" was originally composed in the mid-2000s before being revived during the pandemic and eventually recorded live after lockdown restrictions eased.
“It’s a sarcastic take on existential crisis,” Legaspi said. “It’s about trying to make sense of life’s absurdity by simply becoming more ‘zen’ about it — and about ourselves.”
"Emergency" serves as the first preview of the band's upcoming EP, with more songs set to be released in the coming weeks. Barbie's Cradle will also celebrate its return with a one-night concert at the Music Museum on 1 August.
