CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Inflation in Northern Mindanao picked up in January 2026, hitting 1.4 percent, up from 0.9 percent in December, the Philippine Statistics Authority–Regional Statistical Services Office X (PSA-10) reported.

The increase was driven by higher prices in housing-related utilities and a slowdown in the usual price declines for food and non-alcoholic beverages. Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels posted 4.8 percent inflation, while food and non-alcoholic beverages remained slightly negative at -0.8 percent.

Other major contributors included restaurants and accommodation services at 3.2 percent, and health-related expenses at 6.4 percent. These sectors played a big role in the region’s overall price movement, reflecting changes in household spending, service costs, and medical expenses.

PSA officials said they will continue to monitor price trends to help guide policymakers, local governments, and businesses in planning and economic decision-making.
