Third impeachment complaint vs VP Sara transmitted to Speaker Dy

House Secretary General Atty. Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil on Tuesday confirmed the referral of the third impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.

“I confirm that my office formally transmitted the third impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte to the office of Speaker Faustino ‘Bojie’ G. Dy III early Monday night, in accordance with the Constitution and the Rules of the House of Representatives,” said Garafil.

A group of private citizens—composed of members of the clergy, civil society leaders, and legal practitioners—filed the complaint.

It was endorsed by House Deputy Minority Leader Leila De Lima of Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list, completing the requirements for its transmittal to the Speaker for appropriate action.

The complainants include Rev. Fr. Joel Saballa, Rev. Fr. Joselito S. Sarabia, Rev. Fr. Edilberto J. Baculi, Rev. Fr. Rogelio D. del Rosario, Pastor Leonard P. Arevalo, Pinky L. Tam, Maria Loreto A. Lopez, Atty. Jalilo O. dela Torre, Atty. Democrito C. Barcenas, Atty. Lourdes Barcenas, Sister Ma. Liza Ruedas, Sister Violeta B. Cecilio, and Sister Geraldine J. Denoga.

Garafil said, “I emphasize that the role of the Office of the Secretary General in impeachment proceedings is strictly ministerial. My office is tasked only with the receipt, verification, and transmission of impeachment complaints and their endorsements.”
