BAGUIO CITY — A driver and his passenger died on the spot after the van they were riding in plunged into a ravine in Barangay Ampucao, Itogon, Benguet on 26 January 2026.
Authorities did not disclose the identities of the victims, but said both were residents of the barangay and had families.
Based on a report from the Itogon Municipal Police Station, the victims were traveling from Sitio Saddle in Barangay Ampucao and were on their way to another sitio to fetch companions who would attend a wedding in Baguio City. The van, however, fell into a 200-meter-deep ravine.
Residents in the area and responding personnel rescued the victims and brought them to a hospital, where a doctor at the scene declared both dead on the spot.
The victims’ families believe there was no foul play and said the incident was accidental. Police are continuing their investigation.
