Trespassing and vandalism charges could be filed against Sydney Sweeney.
The American actress, known for the television series Euphoria, may face legal action after hanging bras on the Hollywood sign.
A video posted by the 28-year-old actress on Instagram shows her dressed in all black with her team, carrying bags full of lingerie as they approached the Hollywood landmark to promote her lingerie line, SYRN.
She was then seen climbing the 445-foot-tall Hollywood sign to hang the bras.
TMZ reported that while Sweeney had a permit to film, her activity on the sign was not authorized.
Steve Nissen, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which holds the intellectual property rights to the sign, said the actress could still face legal charges.
In a statement to People magazine, he said, “We did not grant a license or permission of any kind for the production involving Sydney Sweeney, as reported by TMZ, nor did anyone seek a license or permission from the Chamber for that production.”
“Anyone intending to use and/or access the Hollywood sign for commercial purposes must obtain a license or permission from the Hollywood Chamber to do so,” he added.
Although the popular sign sits on public land, it remains a restricted area. Climbing the structure is prohibited and is regularly patrolled by the Los Angeles Police and Fire Departments.
Trespassing may result in fines of up to $1,000 or up to six months in jail. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce may also pursue both trespassing and vandalism charges for the stunt.
