Vice President Sara Duterte strongly condemned the ambush by a terrorist group in Munai, Lanao del Norte, which resulted in the death of four members of government troops on Friday, 23 January.

"This type of violence is a clear challenge to the state of peace and security of our country," Duterte said in a statement.

Duterte also urged government agencies to ensure that justice is served for the four soldiers, and ensure the safety of the citizens against the threats of criminals, terrorists, and other forces that seek to intimidate people and cause suffering to our country.

"Let us work together and not let criminals rule our communities. Let us remember that our freedom and our nation's progress lean on peace and order," she said.

"I, along with the entire Office of the Vice President, join in mourning with the bereaved families and the entire Armed Forces of the Philippines for the loss of four of their gallant members. Their heroism and sacrifices in serving our nation will never be forgotten," the Vice President added.

The four soldiers were killed after they were allegedly ambushed by suspected members of the Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group in this province on Friday morning. The troops were implementing a community support program when they were attacked by the terrorist group.

The Vice President urged concerned government agencies to relentlessly pursue those responsible for the attack and ensure justice for the fallen soldiers.

She also extended her condolences to the families of the victims and to the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
