ILIGAN CITY — More than 1,000 pilgrims from Lanao del Sur gathered at the Provincial Capitol Gymnasium on Wednesday for a mandatory orientation as they prepare for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) conducted the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar to brief participants on spiritual preparation, health requirements and travel regulations.

The Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, is a mandatory religious duty for Muslims that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by those who are physically and financially able.

Ali M. Tabao, acting regional director of NCMF Lanao, said the seminar is essential for a safe and orderly journey.

“This is not just about the trip and the requirements,” Tabao said. “It is about having the right knowledge to perform the Hajj — covering everything from health and discipline to proper conduct and interaction with others.”

The event was organized in coordination with the provincial government and the NCMF Bureau of Pilgrimage and Endowment.
