A male passenger who attempted to move a concealed firearm component through Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 was nabbed, the Philippine National Police–Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) reported Wednesday.
The incident, which occurred Tuesday afternoon, stemmed from the detection of an image resembling a gun part inside a box belonging to a Butuan-bound passenger.
A manual inspection revealed a lower receiver purposely hidden by fastening it to a shovel and wrapping it in cloth.
The passenger admitted ownership and claimed the component was intended for licensing in Mindanao but failed to present any permit, the PNP-AVSEGROUP said.
The NAIA Police Station 2 took the passenger into custody. He remains under investigation, with charges being prepared for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
