The Department of Education (DepEd) confirmed on Tuesday that Undersecretary Trygve Olaivar has resigned after being linked to alleged irregularities in infrastructure projects.
"We confirm that Undersecretary Trygve Olaivar has formally submitted his resignation to the Palace," DepEd chief media relations officer Dennis Legaspi told reporters in a Viber message.
Olaivar is one of the government officials mentioned by former Department of Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo in connection with the alleged anomalous flood control projects.
The former DepEd official had previously denied the accusations referenced in Bernardo’s affidavit during the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing on Thursday, 25 September.
"I deny the allegations made and want to state clearly that I welcome any investigation regarding this matter," Olaivar said in an earlier statement.
