The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Isabela Provincial Field Unit raided a warehouse on 27 October for allegedly trading and possessing trademark-infringing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders.
The operation, conducted in coordination with representatives from the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers Association (LPGMA) and other territorial police units, took place at Purok 5, Barangay Tagaran. Authorities were executing a search warrant for violations of Section 155 (Trademark Infringement) of Republic Act No. 8293 (Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines).
Two male suspects, identified as 50-year-old Ped and 32-year-old Dan, both residents of Cauayan City, were arrested. They were allegedly trading and possessing LPG cylinders without authorization from the trademark owners, making the operations illegal.
Authorities seized 21 filled cylinders bearing SPI and Generic trademarks and 86 empty cylinders labeled Regasco, Econo, iCook, Generic, Shine Gas, Ad, and SPI trademarks. The total estimated value of the confiscated cylinders is approximately ₱200,000.
CIDG Director emphasized that the State protects the exclusive rights of scientists, inventors, artists, and other creators to their intellectual property and creations.
