With thousands of Filipinos expected to travel to their home provinces for Undas, the Land Transportation Office–National Capital Region (LTO-NCR) has launched “Oplan Undas 2025” to ensure road safety and vehicle roadworthiness in Metro Manila.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao ordered all regional offices to implement the program in line with the directive of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
LTO-NCR Regional Director Roque I. Verzosa III led the send-off ceremony marking the official start of the initiative at the LTO-NCR Regional Office in Quezon City. The event was attended by personnel from the Regional Law Enforcement Section, Operations and Administrative Division Law Enforcement Teams, the LTO La Loma District Law Enforcement Team, the Office of the Assistant Regional Director, division heads from administrative and finance units, and representatives from the Regional Digital Media and Public Assistance Office (R-DMPAO).
As part of the operations, law enforcement personnel are conducting inspections in bus terminals across Metro Manila to ensure public utility vehicles (PUVs) are fit for long-distance travel. Random roadside checks of both public and private vehicles have also been intensified at various checkpoints in the region.
Verzosa emphasized the agency’s commitment to public safety during this important Filipino tradition, noting that the NCR has numerous public utility vehicle terminals.
“Undas is a cherished Filipino tradition. As it continues, the LTO will likewise continue to inspect bus terminals and other public utility vehicles to ensure the safety of our fellow Filipinos,” Verzosa said.
Assistant Regional Director Atty. Dennis P. Barion also directed the R-DMPAO to release road safety advisories ahead of the long weekend, reminding motorists to observe responsible driving practices.
“Drivers must also take responsibility for their own safety. Before going on a trip, check your vehicle thoroughly, and always remember the ‘BLOWBAGETS’ safety reminder,” Barion said.
BLOWBAGETS stands for Battery, Lights, Oil, Water, Brakes, Air, Gas, Engine, Tires, and Self — a checklist to help motorists ensure their vehicles are in good condition before traveling.
LTO-NCR said Oplan Undas 2025 aims to reduce road accidents and keep motorists safe as families reunite this holiday season.
