A man posing as a Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) personnel was arrested in an entrapment operation at Brgy. Ibabang Dupay, Lucena City, Quezon on 21 October 2025.

According to the CIDG Quezon Provincial Field Unit, they conducted the entrapment operation along with the territorial police unit, resulting in the arrest of “Edgar” for alleged violation of Articles 294 (Robbery/Extortion) and 177 (Usurpation of Authority or Official Functions) of the Revised Penal Code.

A report stated that the suspect, “Edgar,” 35, a resident of Brgy. Mayao Castillo, Lucena City, Quezon, was arrested while receiving the alleged extorted money from the victim.

The operation stemmed from a complaint by a female victim alleging that the suspect posed, disguised, and misrepresented himself as a PNP personnel currently assigned at CIDG Quezon Provincial Field Unit.

Upon knowing that the suspect claimed to be a member of CIDG Quezon PFU, the victim asked for assistance on how to file a complaint.

The victim further alleged that the suspect said that for P5,000, he could file the complaint with a promise of a “guaranteed conviction.” The victim sent the amount to the suspect’s GCash account.

The demand for money raised the complainant’s suspicion regarding the legitimacy of the suspect’s identity and affiliation with the Philippine National Police.

She sought help from a CIDG Quezon PFU personnel to verify whether the suspect was a bona fide PNP member assigned to the office. Verification revealed that the suspect is not a member of the PNP or the CIDG Quezon Provincial Field Unit.

When the suspect demanded money again, a law enforcement operation was launched that led to his arrest for alleged robbery-extortion and usurpation of authority or official functions.

Discovered and recovered from the arrested suspect were several fake CIDG identification cards, believed to have been used in the same modus operandi.
