President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the celebration of the 124th founding anniversary of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) held yesterday at the Port Area in Manila.

In his keynote address, President Marcos commended the PCG for its unwavering dedication to public service, particularly in responding to disasters and safeguarding the country’s maritime domain, including the West Philippine Sea.

“In these times when our seas face greater challenges, you remain steadfast, proving that courage knows no tides and that service knows no bounds. You stand as guardians of safety and of stability. And in return, I assure you that this government is solidly behind you,” the President said.

Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez joined the celebration and reaffirmed the Department of Transportation’s full support for the PCG, emphasizing ongoing efforts to boost personnel and modernize equipment.

“The work of our Coast Guards is difficult. They are the first responders in rescue missions and operations, and you will never hear them complain. That’s why we must give dignity to the challenges they face and show that we love and support them,” Lopez said.

First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, who serves as an Auxiliary Vice Admiral, also attended the event. Alongside President Marcos and Secretary Lopez, she led the awarding of recognition to 16 outstanding PCG members for exemplary performance, professionalism, and dedication to public service.

Among the honors presented were District of the Year, Station of the Year, Sub-Station of the Year, Ship of the Year, Small Aircraft of the Year, PCG Aircraft of the Year, Lighthouse Keeper of the Year, Non-Officer of the Year, Non-Uniformed Personnel Supervisor of the Year, and Non-Uniformed Personnel of the Year.

PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan presented the organization’s FY 2024–2025 Accomplishment Report, highlighting successful missions in the West Philippine Sea.

A miniature model of the Pasig River Lighthouse was also unveiled, symbolizing the PCG’s continued commitment to ensuring maritime safety and security across Philippine waters.

Other notable attendees included Senate Deputy Majority Leader JV Ejercito, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., and Presidential Adviser on Poverty Alleviation Larry Gadon.
