Teacher shot dead inside school campus in Leyte

TACLOBAN CITY – A public school teacher was shot dead by his husband inside a classroom in Brgy. Agbanga, Matalom, Leyte before noon on Wednesday, 22 October 2025.

Police investigators identified the victim as alias “Ellen,” 39-years old, a kindergarten teacher of Agbanga Elementary School.

The suspect, identified as alias “Lino,” 49 years old, reportedly rushed home after killing his wife and committed suicide by shooting himself inside their bathroom.

This is the second shooting incident involving a public school teacher inside a school compound within a week in Leyte province, where the perpetrator was the husband of the victim.

Last 16 October, a teacher of Tanauan School of Craftsmanship and Home Industries in Tanauan town was also shot by her husband early morning inside the school.

Both cases are still under investigation as to the motive of shooting.

The Department of Education – Schools Division of Leyte condemned both incidents and coordinated with local law enforcement agencies to conduct thorough investigations.

DepED Leyte also ordered the schools to implement enhanced security measures to strengthen camps safety to prevent incidents in the future.

“The safety and welfare of all learners and personnel remain the Division’s highest priority,” DepEd Leyte said in a statement. Psychosocial support services were also provided to the learners.
