Power and fuel operations in Mindanao have returned to normal following the magnitude 7.4 offshore earthquake that struck Davao Oriental on Thursday night.

In an advisory Friday afternoon, the Department of Energy’s Task Force on Energy Resiliency (TFER), chaired by Undersecretary Felix William B. Fuentebella, confirmed that all transmission lines affected by the quake have been restored. 

“Power transmission services in Mindanao are under normal operation,” the task force said.

Three power plants — Malita Coal, Agus 1, and Pulangi 4 — that automatically tripped after the quake have also been “restored,” with “no observed abnormalities based on the structural integrity assessment of the hydroelectric power plants.”

According to TFER, the transmission line outages had briefly disrupted supply in “parts of Davao City, Davao del Norte, and Davao de Oro,” but all feeders under the Butuan, General Santos, and Davao control centers have since been brought back online.

Five electric cooperatives were initially affected by the earthquake. “Three are currently under normal operation, while two are experiencing partial power interruption with ongoing power restoration,” the task force said.

As of reporting, Davao Oriental Electric Cooperative, Inc. is restoring power to about 28,000 customer connections, while Northern Davao Electric Cooperative, Inc. is working on 24,000.

Meanwhile, the Aboitiz-led Davao Light and Power Company reported “ten substations tripped” and “two substations equal to 30 megawatts of load were isolated due to broken 69-kV lines connected to NGCP.” 

The incident temporarily affected the Tadeco and Sto. Tomas areas, with restoration targeted by 3 PM.

TFER added that the fuel supply in the region remains “sufficient and stable,” with all bulk facilities, LPG plants, and gasoline stations operating normally.

Four electric vehicle charging stations in the Davao Region remain offline due to local power outages.

The task force said it continues to coordinate with the DOE, NGCP, and local power utilities to monitor and address any remaining energy concerns across Mindanao.
