Kabataan Partylist representative Atty. Renee Co has criticized President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s intent to sign the bill postponing the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

“Kabataan Partylist today condemned Marcos Jr.'s hypocritical stance on Supreme Court rulings, highlighting his opportunistic approach to constitutional mandates, particularly regarding Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (BSKE) elections,” the group said.

In a press briefing on 25 July, Malacañan stated that the Supreme Court ruling on the impeachment trial should be respected.

“We call on everyone to respect the Supreme Court and place their trust in our institution,” Usec. Claire Castro said.

The Kabataan Partylist said on their Facebook page that while the administration urged everyone to respect the Supreme Court’s ruling on the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, they are simultaneously moving to sign a bill postponing the BSKE — something the Court has already ruled unconstitutional.

Co described the move as “constitutional cherry-picking,” emphasizing that postponing the BSKE right after registering over two million new young voters undermines the democratic rights of Filipino youth and local communities.

“Ito ay walang kahihinatnan kung hindi pagpapakita ng kasuklam-suklam na double standard ni Marcos. Gusto niyang lang gamitin ang Korte Suprema kapag nagsisilbi sa kanyang pansariling interes,” Co said.
