The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Friday revealed that a total of 215 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Palawan have sought executive clemency.

BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. said executive clemency refers to reprieve, absolute pardon, conditional pardon with or without parole conditions, and commutation of sentence which can be granted by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

The BuCor said the 215 PDLs underwent a series of psychological examinations that were conducted from 22 to 25 July.

“This initiative was carried out as part of the requirements set by the Board of Pardons and Parole (BPP) for individuals seeking executive clemency,” it also said.

The bureau explained that the process of psychological examinations provides a comprehensive assessment of the mental and emotional state of the PDLs, which is crucial in evaluating their eligibility for potential release.

The examinations, BuCor said were conducted by a team of registered psychometricians from the Reception and Diagnostic Center (RDC) of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) under the supervision of BuCor psychologist CT/Insp. Mary Anne L. Esculto.
