Bulacan fisherfolk get P1.4M livelihood assistance

Malolos City, Bulacan – Some 402 fisherfolk from 17 organized fisherfolk associations in Bulacan were given a total of P1.4-million worth of livelihood assistance by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 3 (BFAR3).

According to BFAR3’s statement on Tuesday, the distribution was conducted on July 11, 2025, at Barangay San Isidro 2 in the town of Paombong.

Provincial Fisheries Officer for Bulacan, Joseph Bitara, Provincial Agriculturist Ma. Gloria SF. Carrillo, local government representatives from the Municipal and City Agriculturist Office, and the chairpersons of the Municipal/ City Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Councils (M/CFARMC) were all present during the turn over ceremony.

BFAR3 cited that the initiative was made possible thru the partnership with the Provincial Government of Bulacan under the leadership of Governor Daniel Fernando. The partnership provided the said livelihood support to fisherfolk from the municipalities of Hagonoy, Paombong, and Calumpit.

The livelihood support package, fully funded by BFAR 3, consisted of 250 gillnets, 110 black nets, and eight marine engines. These interventions form part of BFAR 3’s commitment under the Capture Fisheries Program to provide essential livelihood support to the fishers and strengthen the local fisheries sector in Bulacan.
