Vlogger Cherry White is facing a 90-day suspension of her driver’s license after the Land Transportation Office (LTO) flagged her viral video that showed what authorities described as unsafe driving practices.
LTO Acting Assistant Secretary and chief Greg G. Pua, Jr. confirmed Friday that the agency issued a show cause order (SCO) after White’s video circulated widely online. In the clip, she was seen lounging in the driver’s seat with one leg propped up, an act the LTO said sets a dangerous example for her large audience.
“The information we received was that this personality has a strong following on social media and the video showing her unsafe driving practice is dangerous since it could be misinterpreted that it is okay to do that,” Pua said.
He explained that the LTO has launched a formal investigation, starting with an order for the vlogger to explain her actions and appear at the agency’s central office in Quezon City.
“We are now investigating this incident and it starts with the issuance of a show cause order against her,” he added.
Based on details shared by the LTO, the content creator appeared to be neglecting proper driving posture while on the road, raising concerns about her safety and the safety of other motorists.
Under the SCO, White must explain why she should not be held liable for being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle under Section 27 (a) of Republic Act 4136, and for reckless driving.
“Due to the gravity of the act, the Driver's License No. D19-14-004834 issued to a.k.a ‘Cherry White’ is hereby PREVENTIVELY SUSPENDED for a period of NINETY (90) DAYS,” the SCO stated.
It further directed her to surrender her license ahead of her scheduled hearing.
“Accordingly, you are directed to SURRENDER your driver's license on or before the scheduled hearing to formally commence the period of suspension,” the order added.
The LTO has also flagged the vehicle involved in the video, placing it under alarm as the inquiry continues. Pua reminded the public that viral trends and online popularity should never be an excuse to ignore basic road safety rules, especially when such actions might influence impressionable followers.
