Bukidnon 2nd District Representative Jonathan Keith “John” Flores discussed on Sunday his proposed bill targeting political dynasties.
In an interview, Flores explained that his version of the bill would cover relatives up to the second degree of consanguinity or affinity.
Under his proposal, individuals related within the second degree would be prohibited from serving simultaneously with any incumbent official.
"This applies even if the relatives are not immediate family, as the goal is to gradually define and give life to the Constitutional provision banning political dynasties," Flores said.
He emphasized that the Constitution mandates a prohibition on political dynasties.
Flores also acknowledged the inherent advantage of incumbent officials, which he said contributes to the continued dominance of dynastic politics in the country.
