In a rare and heartfelt revelation, veteran actor Cesar Montano opened up about one of the most painful chapters of his personal life — his highly publicized separation from actress Sunshine Cruz — and the deeply personal reason he chose not to speak out during the height of the controversy.
Appearing in the latest episode of Julius Babao UNPLUGGED, Montano spoke candidly about the intense public scrutiny that followed their breakup and why he remained silent despite the accusations thrown his way.
“Hindi naman makakatulong,” Montano told Babao. “Tinimbang ko na e. God gave me wisdom. Hindi makakatulong sa anak ko kung sasagot pa ako sa mga paratang sa akin.”
Montano, who shares three daughters with Cruz, said his silence was an act of protection — for his children, not himself. Responding publicly, he feared, would only add to their suffering.
“Ang repercussion niyan, tatamaan ang mga anak kong babae. Mabu-bully lang sila sa school,” he explained. “Kung ako ’yung nasa sapatos nila at nagbabangayan ’yung magulang ko sa social media, ang sakit n’un. Mga babae pa naman sila. Di baleng ako na lang—batang kalsada naman ako, kahit ano kaya kong tanggapin. Pero sila, hindi nila dapat pagdaanan ’yun.”
For Montano, silence was not surrender. It was strength, compassion, and a choice grounded in love and wisdom. He credits his faith — and the presence of his daughters — for helping him see what truly mattered.
“Buti na lang andu’n ‘yung mga anak ko kaya I kept quiet,” he said. “And God was right—yung binigay niya sa akin na wisdom. Tingnan mo ngayon, magkaibigan kami ni Sunshine.”
Now on better terms with Cruz, Montano’s reflections offer a powerful portrait of fatherhood, maturity, and humility. His story is a reminder that sometimes, the most courageous thing one can do is to simply stay quiet — for the right reasons.
