
ZAMBOANGA CITY — Seven former members of local terrorist groups (LTG), known for their past involvement in violence and terrorism in the area, have formally surrendered to the 57th Infantry (Masikap) Battalion in Upi municipality in Maguindanao del Norte.
Lt. Col. Aeron T. Gumabao, commanding officer of the 57th IB reported yesterday, the former rebels voluntarily surrendered to them at their headquarters located in Edwards Camp in Barangay Mirab in Upi town.
The seven former LTGs also turned over to the soldiers two 60mm Mortars, two M14 rifles, one M79 Grenade Launcher, one Cal. 30 Sniper Rifle (Muzzle type) and one 7.62mm Sniper Rifle.
The surrenderees were immediately presented to Brig. Gen. Michael A. Santos, commander of the 603rd Infantry Brigade, and witnessed by Maguindanao del Norte Governor Sharifudin Tucao Mastura during a ceremony held at the 57th IB headquarters on Tuesday.
During the presentation of the LTG to Santos, he briefly emphasized the important role of the local government and the people behind the success of the surrender.
