Meralco Power Academy (MPA) and Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) have signed a partnership to enhance energy education, research, and professional training for the country’s future power sector workforce.

In a memorandum of understanding signed at Meralco’s headquarters in Pasig City, both parties committed to co-developing specialized learning events, advanced training programs, and internship opportunities to help students gain hands-on industry experience.

“In the past, higher education institutions and industry are moving towards different directions. The solution towards that is strengthening the collaboration of industry and academia — not only in the development of talent and workforce but even in the field of research and development,” MSU-IIT Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan said.

The partnership also includes the co-creation of curricula for graduate programs in renewable energy and nuclear science, as well as joint lectures, research conferences, and laboratory collaborations to contribute to the country’s growing pool of energy professionals.

The initiative is part of MPA’s broader goal to support the Philippines’ transition to sustainable and secure energy systems.

“This collaboration is more than just an agreement — it reflects a shared vision of building a future-ready energy workforce. Together with MSU-IIT, we strive to equip aspiring engineers and scientists with the skills and knowledge to drive the Philippines toward a more sustainable energy landscape," Aperocho concluded.

Founded in 2013, MPA is the training arm of Meralco and has become a leading energy education provider, focusing on sustainable energy, electrical safety, and technical skills development, while supporting national development through talent building in the power sector.
