A passenger’s power bank overheated and emitted smoke inside Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on Monday, prompting a swift response from airport authorities.
The incident occurred inside the terminal building and was quickly contained by security personnel, who secured the device and ensured the safety of nearby passengers, according to initial reports.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) commended New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) for its prompt handling of the situation.
“Passengers were reportedly safe, while the incident did not interrupt airport operations nor cause damage to the facility,” the DOTr said in a statement.
Airport operations at Terminal 1 returned to normal shortly after the incident, with no flight delays or injuries reported.
