
LUUK, Sulu — Seventeen soldiers from the 1102nd Infantry “Ganarul” Brigade took part in the “Run for a Cause” event organized by the 545th Engineering Battalion along ANA Boulevard in this town.
The event wasn’t just a race, but a chance to push the soldiers’ endurance and show their dedication to both fitness and community.
Lt. Col. Karl Mark D. Namocatcat, commander of the 545th Engineering Battalion in Luuk, explained that four members of the brigade participated in the 5-kilometer run, while 13 others took on the 10-kilometer category last Saturday.
One of the most notable participants was Brig. Gen. Alaric Avelino delos Santos, commander of the 1102nd Infantry “Ganarul” Brigade, who completed the 5-kilometer run alongside his team.
“The event is all about promoting health, building camaraderie, and showing support for the community,” Namocatcat shared. “It’s also a great way for different military units and local civilians to come together.”

The participation of the “Ganarul” Brigade, led by Brig. Gen. Delos Santos, was a clear display of the strong cooperation between different military units, reinforcing their commitment to supporting good causes in the province.
For his part, Delos Santos expressed his pride in the event, saying, “The Run for a Cause is more than just a physical challenge — it represents our unity and commitment to serve, not just in security operations, but also in activities that positively impact the community.” He added, “I’m really proud of our soldiers who joined today. It shows that the ‘Ganarul’ Brigade is actively engaged, both on and off the field.”
In addition to the run, the 11th Infantry “Alakdan” Division of the Philippine Army in Sulu continues to push its peace and development initiatives. Delos Santos also announced that the 1102nd Infantry “Ganarul” Brigade will host the “Triathlon Sulu 2025 Series 2” in collaboration with the Provincial Tourism Office, the local government, and other partners who support sports tourism in the region.
The event, set for 14 September at Man’s Beach in Tanduh Bato, Luuk, Sulu, will feature a 1.5-kilometer swim, a 40-kilometer bike ride and a 10-kilometer run. Nonoy Lacson
