Teenage rider crashes to death

A cousin of the victim, who was following her at the time, told authorities that she had just come from a misunderstanding with her boyfriend, which may have led her to deliberately cause the crash

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — A 16-year-old girl died after reportedly crashing her motorcycle into a tree along the Doña Josefa Llanes Escoda National Highway in Barangay Mariquet, Solsona, Ilocos Norte Sunday evening.

According to Solsona Municipal Police Station (MPS), they responded to the incident at around 7:55 p.m. involving a black Honda Wave 110 driven by a 16-year-old resident of Barangay Manalpac, Solsona.

Initial investigation revealed that the motorcycle was headed west when the teenager allegedly and intentionally rammed a rooted narra tree along the shoulder of the road. The impact threw her several meters from the point of collision, resulting in severe head and body injuries.

Responding police and Rural Health Unit personnel rushed the victim to Piddig District Hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Ferry Tolentino at around 8:15 p.m.

The motorcycle, which sustained undetermined damage, was brought to Solsona MPS for proper documentation and disposition. A cousin of the victim, who was following her at the time, told authorities that she had just come from a misunderstanding with her boyfriend, which may have led her to deliberately cause the crash.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
