President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced the government’s readiness to implement a long-term plan to ensure the safety of residents affected by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island. The plan includes identifying safe evacuation sites and permanent relocation areas.
Marcos also ordered the creation of a National Task Force on Kanlaon, led by the Department of National Defense, to oversee the operation. He emphasized the need for large evacuation centers and coordination with local governments to ensure effective relocation and rebuilding.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has reported ongoing volcanic activity, with nine tremors recorded in the past 24 hours.
