LAMITAN CITY, Basilan — About 69 families in this city have been provided new homes through the Kapayapaan sa Pamayanan housing project of Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim, Al Haj.

Lamitan City Mayor Roderick H. Furigay said yesterday that the 69 new homes marked another milestone in the Bangsamoro Government’s commitment to providing safe and dignified housing for the city’s people.

Furigay said the housing units were awarded to families displaced by fire, floods, and road expansions, as well as to indigent families identified as the poorest of the poor, on Wednesday.

According to Furigay, 10 of the beneficiaries were from Sitio Panansangan, Barangays of Ubit; seven from Sitio Baroy in Barangay Sengal; 20 beneficiaries from Barangay Lumuton; four from Barangay Lo-ok; eight from Boheyakan; and 20 from Barangay Bulingan.

“For the beneficiaries, these homes symbolize hope and a fresh start,” Mayor Furigay said.

Barangay Chairman Joselito Alfaro of Bulingan said, “Thank you very much for giving us housing and other projects.”

Furigay acknowledged the crucial role of BARMM leaders in securing this housing project.

“This project was made possible through the support of BARMM leaders, including the former Executive Secretary Abdulraof Macacua, and our Project Engineer Director General Mohajirin Ali,” Furigay commented.

“BARMM’s focus on Lamitan city in Basilan province proves that we made the right decision in joining the Bangsamoro,” he said.

He also appealed for additional housing projects to reach 1,000 total units in the city.
