Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has lauded the Bulacan Youth Congress, emphasizing the critical role of the youth in shaping the nation’s future.
Addressing approximately 400 attendees Friday composed of Sanggunian ng Kabataan officials from across the province of Bulacan, Go reaffirmed his commitment to advancing policies that empower young leaders.
“You are the hope and future leaders of our nation. In your hands lies the future of the next generation,” Go said during a video call.
As chairman of the Senate Committee on Youth, Go said he has been actively pushing for programs and initiatives that promote education, sports development and leadership training among young Filipinos.
He also reiterated his advocacy for keeping the youth engaged in productive activities, reminding them to “get into sports, stay away from drugs and always prioritize education.”
Go expressed his full support for the SK, recognizing their significant contributions to grassroots governance. He encouraged the youth leaders to serve with integrity, stay grounded and remain dedicated to the welfare of their communities.
In line with this, he mentioned his authorship of Senate Bill 2816, which seeks to establish a four-year fixed term for barangay and SK officials.
“I know how important your positions are, so we need longer terms to effectively carry out your plans and programs for your communities,” Go explained. He stressed that longer terms would allow young leaders to implement sustainable and impactful projects that benefit their communities.
He also cited his earlier support for Republic Act 11462 and 11935, both of which he co-sponsored, postponing the Barangay and SK elections and granting barangay officials additional time to implement their projects and initiatives for the benefit of their constituents.
“I am just a simple man from Davao City in Mindanao who was given the opportunity to become a senator of this country. I have one piece of advice for you, the youth, who knows, you might also become a senator someday… the secret is simple, love our fellow Filipinos, we will never go wrong,” he said.
“As your Mr. Malasakit, I will continue to serve you because serving is my passion, and I believe that serving the people is also serving the Lord, serving Allah,” Go concluded.
The event at Costa Palawan in Puerto Princesa City served as a platform for young leaders to engage in discussions about governance, leadership, and their role in nation-building.
