Omoda & Jaecoo Philippines hosted the Batangas Racing Circuit for their inaugural Media Track Day in the Philippines. Before the vehicles’ official launch later this month, the OMODA C5, OMODA E5 and JAECOO EJ6 were allowed to be tested by motoring journalists.

At 3:45 a.m., we assembled at the Makati meeting spot. At 4 a.m., we departed for Batangas. By 5:45 a.m., we arrived at the Batangas Racing Circuit. Following registration, we had breakfast and coffee. The organizers all clearly explained the schedule and safety precautions.

We were given a thorough briefing, from the off-road segment to the slalom course, brake and evade exercises, and lapping sessions. Jackie Ramirez, who facilitated the program, emphasized the importance of safety and gave an overview of the vehicles’ advanced features. By 8 a.m., we were ready to begin the day’s activities. We put our helmets on — excited for the drive.

The first activity was an off-road test using the JAECOO EJ6. In the passenger seat beside me was Matthew Pascual, my instructor for this session. I drove the EJ6 through the muddy, slippery course. It was able to handle the challenging terrain with ease with its dual-motor 4WD system and Prodrive Suspension. One standout feature was the “whirl” mode. It locked the rear wheels to allow for a sharp U-turn. It felt so easy as if you could go around in a very tight spot and just enjoy circling like a cat.

We drove the EJ6 through wet and uneven terrain. Its traction and ground clearance stood out. It felt stable and controlled. The Prodrive Suspension delivered a smooth ride in off-road conditions.

We then went to the track to test all models. First was the slalom course. The OMODA E5 showed its agility by weaving through the safety cones. The precise steering and responsive handling stood out as it navigated the cones at a relatively high speed.

We did the brake and evade test with the Omoda C5 by simulating a sudden need to avoid an obstacle and stop immediately. The C5 performed well with stability and reliable braking. Knowing it has an advanced safety feature with its 5-star safety rating, added a sense of confidence.

Seasoned race car drivers and instructors, Louis Ramirez and Robbie Hermoso, guided us during the lapping session. We pushed the vehicles to their limits. The OMODA E5’s electric motor delivered seamless power on the straights, while the JAECOO EJ6 proved it wasn’t just for off-road — it handled the track with surprising ease. The OMODA C5, designed as a sporty crossover, felt at home on the circuit.

The instructors emphasized the importance of braking points, lane discipline, and smooth acceleration. Each lap provided a better understanding of the vehicles’ capabilities. The C5’s sporty suspension and responsive steering shone during sharp turns, while the E5’s electric powertrain offered consistent performance on long straights. The EJ6 handled corners with confidence and maintained stability at higher speeds.

The technology and comfort of their interiors were just as impressive as their performance. The OMODA C5 features dual 10.25-inch screens, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and ambient lighting. The E5 has larger dual 12.3-inch screens and eco-focused features, while the EJ6 boasts luxury and ruggedness with ventilated seats, a 15.6-inch infotainment system, and a premium sound setup. Each car also has an intelligent voice assistant for hands-free operation.

The interiors were thoughtfully designed. The C5’s panoramic sunroof added an airy feel to the cabin, while the E5’s two-tone interior gave it a sleek, futuristic vibe. The EJ6’s spacious layout and premium materials made it feel like a true all-rounder, equally suited for city commutes and off-road adventures.
