Toyota Motor Philippines has introduced new smartphone-based features for the all-new Hilux through its next-generation myToyota Connect service, which allows eligible owners to operate selected vehicle functions and monitor their pickup remotely.
The updated service includes Toyota Remote, which allows owners to switch on the air-conditioning before they enter the vehicle. This can be useful after parking outdoors for several hours, particularly during hot afternoons.
Owners can also check the status of their doors, windows and lights through their phones. If they forget to lock the vehicle after parking, they can secure the doors remotely without having to return to the pickup. Remote unlocking is also available.
The service also addresses a familiar problem in large parking areas. Its GPS-based Find My Car function helps owners locate their vehicle, while remote activation of the horn and hazard lights can make it easier to identify the pickup nearby.
Other security functions include geofence alerts, which notify owners when their vehicle travels outside a designated area. Anti-theft notifications can also warn them of possible unauthorized entry.
In suspected theft cases, customers may request assistance with vehicle tracking and remote immobilization. Toyota clarified that immobilization requires support assistance and cannot be used through the app to stop a vehicle while it is moving.
Through e-Care, owners can receive vehicle health warnings that may require attention. The service also provides access to round-the-clock customer support and roadside assistance in case of breakdowns or other vehicle concerns.
A built-in map can help motorists locate fuel stations or charging facilities, depending on the vehicle and its applicable features.
Toyota has also outlined a separate insurance service that could eventually reward owners for their driving habits.
Connected Toyota Insure, or CTI, uses data from the vehicle’s connected device to measure mileage and driving behavior. The system assesses harsh braking, sudden acceleration and sharp cornering to calculate a personalized Driving Score.
Once CTI becomes available through participating Toyota Insure partners, eligible customers may qualify for renewal premium savings of up to 25 percent on the driving-related perils portion of their insurance coverage.
The assessment covers an eight-month driving period. Actual savings will depend on the owner’s Driving Score and mileage, as well as the applicable insurance conditions. Toyota emphasized that the maximum discount is not guaranteed and does not apply to the entire insurance premium.
The connected services are not limited to the latest Hilux, although the features differ between models.
Basic myToyota Connect is available on selected Toyota vehicles, which include earlier Hilux models, the Corolla Altis, Corolla Cross, Camry, Zenix, Fortuner and RAV4. Other eligible vehicles include the Hiace, Alphard, Land Cruiser Prado and Land Cruiser.
Toyota Motor Philippines first vice president for Vehicle Operations Elijah Sue Marcial said the company wants to provide customer support beyond the initial vehicle purchase.
