Alain Gabriel Alzona scored two Super Sporting Class victories during the first TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippine Cup round at Batangas Racing Circuit, where close fights and several collisions shaped Race Weekend 3.

Toyota Motor Philippines brought its one-make series to the Batangas track on 15 August after 13 years of races at other circuits. The debut had already given the drivers a new challenge. The results showed how quickly some adapted and how costly one mistake could become.

Alzona of Toyota Gensan/Davao Racing opened his weekend with a victory in Sprint Race 7. Michael Bryan Co finished second, followed by Red Diwa of Toyota Isabela.

Diwa struck back in Sprint Race 8. A collision involving several cars disrupted the race less than 10 seconds after the start. Julia de los Angeles spun across the track and was knocked out of the contest.

Diwa escaped the trouble and held the lead until the finish. Joaquin Garrido took second place, while Alzona completed the podium.

Alzona returned to the top in Sprint Race 9 after a decisive pass on Co before the first turn. Co stayed close but could not find a way back past the Toyota Gensan/Davao Racing driver. Diwa finished third.

The Sporting Class produced its own exchange of victories. Bern Zaragoza won Sprint Races 7 and 9, while Joshua David Marquez took Sprint Race 8.

The two drivers also finished second to each other in the races they did not win. Mike Santos earned third place in the first two contests, while Raymond Paul Base claimed the last podium spot in Race 9.

Paolo Ang swept both Legacy Class races for Madkart-R Racing. Gabie Desales placed second in each contest, followed by Oliver Estrella.

The Tamaraw Class had a different winner in each of its three races. Jesse Garcia won Sprint Race 7 before Iñigo Anton took Race 8. Anton also finished second in the other two contests and became the only Tamaraw driver to reach the podium in all three races.

Raymond Cudala secured the final Tamaraw victory after taking an early lead in Sprint Race 9. Anton placed second, while Oliver Aquino finished third.

That race also produced one of the day’s biggest incidents. Debris on Enzo Ison’s Tamaraw affected the vehicle before it hit the car of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippines teammate Will Lucas.

Ison spun but had already earned third place in Sprint Race 8. Late collisions also ended the races of Garcia and Russel Reyes.

TMP president Masando Hashimoto, who also competed during the weekend, described BRC as “a true racer’s track.” Enzo Ison, Justin Santos, Chenee Jimenez, Alex Lim and Will Lucas completed the factory-backed driver lineup.

Toyota also continued its motorsports tests with lower-carbon fuel blends. The Vios race cars used E20 bioethanol, while the Tamaraw entries ran on B5 coco-biodiesel.

The championship will hold its fourth and final race weekend from 10 to 12 September at Clark International Speedway.
