JAEN, Nueva Ecija — A businessman was shot by armed assailants in Barangay San Anton, Jaen, on Saturday morning.

According to eyewitnesses, the victim was driving a gray Ford Everest across a bridge in the said barangay around 10 a.m. when armed men riding in tandem opened fire on the vehicle. The vehicle subsequently crashed into a box culvert and several electrical posts in Barangay Imelda (Apo Esquivel).

Police quickly responded to the incident and apprehended the suspects, who were cornered at a dead-end along Kalye Onse.

In a separate incident on the evening of 31 January, a shooting occurred in Cabanatuan City. Witnesses reported that what initially appeared to be a minor car accident in front of the NEUST Sumacab escalated into a shooting.

According to the witnesses, one vehicle crashed into a steel bar near a 7-Eleven store. The car was then pursued by another vehicle, which tried to confront the driver.

Witnesses aboard a jeepney expressed concern for their safety, fearing that their public utility vehicle would be caught in the crossfire as they heard gunshots from the pursuing vehicle.
