President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Monday ordered the Department of Agriculture (DA) to ensure timely support for farmers as the planting season approaches.

He urged the government agency to deliver “all forms” of support and prevent any gaps during this time.

“There should be no significant delays to the implementation of agri-support to farmers,” Marcos told the DA.

The DA said it has sufficient assistance offerings to farmers particularly fertilizers, quality seeds, and technologies. It added that farmers can achieve higher yields and maximize productivity across various ecosystems through this program.

The DA noted that adequate support prevents delays in distributing seed and fertilizer, allowing farmers to plant on time and increase harvest potential.

“Increased rice production supports job creation across the value chain, farm laborers, transporters, millers, and traders, stimulating rural economies,” the DA said.

Meanwhile, Marcos urged the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) “to be mindful of the planting season” and ensure that the agriculture sector is well-supported and prioritized.

“Be mindful of the planting season. We must not be left behind in the planting season... That’s why you need to come up with the timely budgetary support,” Marcos said.
