Governor Jeremias “Jerry” Singson has declared the suspension of classes at all levels in public and private schools, as well as work in public offices across Ilocos Sur on Monday, 13 January.
The suspension was announced through Executive Order No. 01, Series of 2025, in support of the Iglesia ni Cristo’s (INC) “National Rally for Peace” to be held in Metro Vigan. The event, which aims to promote peace and unity among Filipinos, is expected to draw thousands of INC delegates and members, starting at 6 a.m.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office recommended the suspension due to anticipated heavy traffic and large crowds in Metro Vigan. This measure is intended to ensure public safety, preserve order, and minimize disruptions unrelated to the event.
Essential services, including emergency and healthcare sectors, will remain operational to guarantee continuous service to the public. Meanwhile, private businesses are given the discretion to decide on work suspension for their employees.
Law enforcement and traffic management authorities have been directed to ensure the smooth implementation of the event and maintain safety and orderliness in the area.
