Cagayan de Oro City — The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Department has issued an advisory regarding a four-hour jamming of cell phone signals along the route of the “Translacion” on Thursday. This measure is part of the security preparations for the yearly feast of the Black Nazarene in the city.

Nick Jabagat said the jamming of cell phone signals will affect areas near the Saint Augustine Cathedral, Velez Street, and the Nazarene Parish along Velez Street from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Thursday.

Aside from the no-signal advisory, the city police department has also deployed at least 100 rookie policemen to support regular PNP officers and force multipliers along the Translacion routes.

This development comes as the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Northern Mindanao assured on Wednesday that there will be no overtime duty for policemen. This policy ensures officers are physically and mentally prepared to perform law enforcement duties in their respective areas of assignment.

Police Major Joan Navarro, regional PNP spokesperson, said policemen will render eight-hour shifts on regular days and a maximum of 12 hours during major events in the region.

“The maximum duty of PNP personnel is 12 hours to provide them rest and time for their families,” Navarro added.

She also mentioned that the PNP medical services are on standby to provide necessary medical and mental support for police officers performing law enforcement duties.
