Two suspected illegal gamblers were arrested by Quezon City Police District (QCPD) operatives over the weekend, authorities said Sunday.
The suspects — identified as Pee Jay Palima of Barangay E. Rodriguez, Cubao and Roderick Jorda of Barangay 148, Pasay City — were apprehended while playing “cara y cruz” along Oxford Street in Cubao.
Aside from gambling paraphernalia and P500 in bet money, police also seized an improvised pistol and a .38-caliber ammunition from Palima.
Both suspects will be charged with violating Presidential Decree 1602, which penalizes illegal gambling. Palima will also face charges under Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
QCPD acting director Col. Melecio Buslig Jr. said the arrest is part of the police force’s ongoing campaign against criminality.
