Sen. Bong Go reiterated the need for the government to continue strengthening its fire safety and preparedness efforts nationwide as his team provided relief to fire victims in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi on Friday, 14 October.
In his video message, Go highlighted that the Bureau of Fire Protection is currently undergoing a modernization program following the enactment of the BFP Modernization Act of 2021, which he primarily authored and co-sponsored.
The mandated modernization program includes procuring new fire equipment, expanding manpower, and conducting specialized training for firefighters, among others.
BFP is also directed to conduct monthly fire prevention campaigns and information drives in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government and local government units.
"A lost life is a lost life forever.
Held at Notre Dame of Bongao, the senator's team provided grocery packs, snacks, vitamins, and masks to 316 fire victims. Meanwhile, they gave away bicycles, shoes, phablets, and balls for volleyball and basketball to select individuals.
To hasten their recovery from the damages, the Department of Social Welfare and Development also provided the fire victims with financial assistance.
